The full mechanics breakdown behind Built Straight — the comparisons, the angles, and the training method that makes them repeatable.
Far too many players obsess over getting their shooting hand directly behind the ball. The greats don't. Look at the initial grip of Michael Jordan, Steph Curry, and Mark Price — it sits closer to 50/50 on the ball. That's because they align the shooting elbow to the target, not the hand behind it.
They understand a simple truth: a ball brought up straight and followed through straight is a ball that goes straight. The most efficient way to guarantee that? A shooting elbow that never comes off the line — into the elbow split and out through the cobra follow-through, releasing off the index and middle fingers.
Understanding these mechanics is easy. Producing them — the angles, the feel, the repeatability, at game speed — is the hard part. So the real question is: how do we train young players to actually produce this, not just know it?
Telling a young player the right way is one thing. Building a system that physically forces the correct movement is another. Corrective resistance is my method of techniques that make it nearly impossible to do it wrong — so the right mechanics become the only mechanics.
And timing is everything. We catch it early instead of playing catch-up later — after thousands of reps have already burned the wrong movement into muscle memory. That's the foundation of Follow Through Academy.
